During a 6 1/2 year study period the author used colposcopy to evaluate 174 pregnant patients with abnormal cervical cytology. Of these patients, 42% had an exocervical squamocolumnar junction. In those patients beyond the age of 25, or with a parity greater than 1, 80% had endocervical junctions. The predominant effect of pregnancy is to stimulate endocervical migration of this junction.
