Abstract
In a comprehensive survey of the number of general practitioners in the four metropolitan health regions of Sydney, 2,328 general practitioners were identified--the equivalent of 2,225 full time practitioners. This resulted in a ratio of one general practitioner to every 1,393 of the Sydney population.
