In a socialist country the social worker is a specialist who assists with resocialization as well as with the extensive prophylactic work. Under our conditions the social worker is necessary, its place being justified by the work done by him heretofore. In preventive health service the social worker assists the health authority with the rehabilitation of patients. In psychiatric service the resocialization of patients will be incomplete without the participation of the social worker. In the field of pediatric neuropsychiatry the social worker is helpful in many respects. His contribution to the diagnostic work is in the form of a detailed investigation into the living conditions of the development of the child and of his parents. He strives for an individual resocialization of children and is in constant consultation with the parents of the diseased child, in which connection he assumes the position of what we call a technical supervisor, especially for after treatment as well as in the group work with the parents of children of neglected education. He makes his contribution to prophylaxis, and that both independently and as a member of the working group for psychohygiene.
