A cytochemical technique utilizing a chromium complex to localize biogenic amines in tissue has been studied using energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The X-ray analysis procedure shows that chromium is indeed involved in the complex at the biogenic amine locus. This demonstrates intraneuronal sites for neurotransmitter agents and shows that the combined methodologies of histochemistry, cytochemistry, electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis can provide new methods and insights into cellular metabolic activity.
