The medical libraries in the Postgraduate Medical Education Centres which are now being built in many regions are generally of a simple pattern based on traditional library practices. In view of the recent advances in information science it is suggested that a more radical approach should be made to the design of medical library and information centres. The basic requirements for medical information in relation to education and medical practice are discussed together with recommendations for a regional and national network for the co-ordination of information-handling in the field of the health sciences.
目前许多地区正在建设的研究生医学教育中心的医学图书馆，总体上都是基于传统图书馆模式的简单样式。鉴于信息科学的最新进展，建议对医学图书馆和信息中心的设计采取更为彻底的方法。文中讨论了与医学教育和医疗实践相关的医学信息的基本要求，并就建立一个区域和国家网络以协调健康科学领域的信息处理工作提出了建议。
