A survey of histological and some enzyme histochemical changes in experimental guinea-pig skin burns is given. The results indicate that the enzyme reactions seem to be the earliest detectable changes in healing burns. The enzymes probably play a part in the initiation and progress of the healing process. Local antiseptic therapy does not seem to accelerate the healing of burns; this may be related to its lack of influence on the enzyme reactions.
