An index for measuring office visit services, the identifiable Medical Procedure (IMP) system, is presented and its applications described. The number of IMP units assigned for an office visit is a function of the training and type of personnel providing the services as well as the health status of the individual. The index is evaluated in terms of the most highly developed system currently in use to quantify non—office visit services, the California Relative Value Schedule.
