Gastrinoma and phaeochromocytoma: is there a mixed multiple endocrine adneoma syndrome?

A 51 year old man was found to have a malignant gastrinoma. A phaeochromocytoma had been diagnosed and removed previously. The occurrence of these two rare tumours in a single patient suggests the possibility of a crossover between MEA I and MEA II. Reported cases of the "crossover syndrome" are reviewed and the status of this phenomenon as a syndrome is discussed.
