Management of the patient with Alzheimer's disease always involves both patient and family. The physician must be willing to educate family members about the illness and to listen to their concerns. Major tranquilizers and antidepressants may be useful for patient management. A new day care program for nine Alzheimer's disease patients and a family education and support group for their caregivers have been strikingly successful.
