[Emergencies in geriatrics].

The more pronounced a so called polypathia is present in the aged, the earlier, the more often and/or the more severe is the tendency that an acute disease develops to an emergency situation to which it never would become per se. Pathophysiological aspects of outstanding importance for treating or preventing such emergency situations are discussed.
