The very high standard and increasing number of students in dental education request audiovisual aids. Within the department of restorative dentistry the phantom-course seems to be especially suited to make use of these didactic means. Since 1975 approved methods in Erlangen were introduced and discussed: Video-films can be appropriate supplements to lecturing, teaching in small groups and individual instructions.
