An aphakic patient with a spontaneous intracorneal hemorrhage is described. The patient had been using a soft contact lens on a daily wear basis for 20 months. To my knowledge this paper represents the second report of this complication and the first in which the contact lens can be definitely implicated as the source of the corneal neovascularization and resultant hemorrhage. It is suggested that ophthalmologists observe their aphakic contact lens patients closely and either modify their regimens or discontinue the lenses with the development of corneal neovascularization.
