208 cases of rectal cancer after curative or palliative surgical treatment are reported. Postoperative lethality, early complications and late follow-up prognosis are discussed. After curative surgical treatment 5-year-survival runs to 53%. In suitable cases palliative removal of the tumor is justifiable.
