Sometimes recurrent vitreous hemorrhages occur during the course of intermediary uveitis. As a rule, hemorrhages from newly-formed vessels immediately behind the posterior margin of the vitreous base ( juxtabasal vasoproliferations ) progress subhyaloidally toward the posterior pole and invade the vitreous gel through the prefoveal hole of the detached posterior hyaloid membrane. On the other hand, weak juxtabasal hemorrhages cause only a circumscribed flat peripheral detachment of the vitreous body and ooze locally into the vitreous gel. Therefore, hemorrhages within the anterior part of the vitreous body in intermediary uveitis do not always originate from newly formed vessels within the vitreous base, but sometimes from juxtabasal vasoproliferations .
