Preputial skin as a model for the demonstration of substance P-like immunoreactive human peripheral nerve endings.

Preputial skin from circumcisions has been used to demonstrate the localization of substance P-like immunoreactivity. It is observed mainly in the dermis, as isolated fibers beneath the basal layer of the epidermis and near the blood vessel walls, and in nerve bundles in the deeper layers. Some fibers even penetrate the epidermis very deeply, until the stratum corneum.
