Abstract
This review covers a large range of dynamic interactions between the genes, molecules and cells of the immune system, which define the conditions of its function and enable a balance to be found between the individual and his environment. The complexity and the flexibility of the system offer alternative or compensatory routes in case of deficiency. This does not become apparent unless the lesion is deep.
