Abstract

In rat soleus muscle placed in solution with 13 mumol/l potassium chloride carbachol (10 mumol/l) caused a marked increase in miniature end-plate potentials frequency. Intensification of spontaneous mediator release was also observed under clamping of the membrane potential of the muscle fibre at potassium equilibrium potential level. It is concluded that carbachol presynaptic effect on spontaneous acetylcholine release is not connected with postsynaptic membrane depolarization and results from direct mimetic action on the motor nerve terminals.
