Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease entity primarily affecting the central nervous system. The signs and symptoms of the disease are highly variable in character, number and duration. These are discussed extensively. A brief overview of the disease is presented including some hypothetical considerations regarding pathophysiology. Other than the recent documentation of a hot bath test, a review of literature found few useful laboratory tests available for diagnostic determination of MS. Finally, the author provides information about various treatment modalities. The emphasis for the NP's management of MS patients is placed upon individualized programs of care.
