Oral hygiene and denture cleansing may seem to be of little significance with respect to problems of general health. However both are necessary in order to: (a) conserve the remaining teeth; (b) maintain the functions of the denture; (c) prevent other diseases; and (d) preserve the well-being of the patient. Principles which can be put into practice even under the conditions of geriatric care or hospitalization are demonstrated.
