Problems with the use of Op-Site sutureless skin closures in orthopaedic procedures.

Op-Site sutureless skin closures were compared with continuous nylon sutures in a controlled trial involving 55 major orthopaedic procedures. Three major problems were identified in the sutureless skin closure group--safety, accuracy of skin edge apposition, and ease of use. Op-Site sutureless skin closures were found to have a better cosmetic result, were more comfortable and had a lower rate of wound inflammation. Op-Site skin closures are a useful adjunct to sutures but will not replace them.
