Relationship between pathogenicity in footpad lesion test and invasiveness in Escherichia coli.

Using a previously described virulence test, we established a correlation between Escherichia coli invasiveness and its ability to cause lesions in mouse footpads. The footpad lesion test thus represents a simple-to-use tool for screening pathogenic and invasive strains of E. coli.
