Computer tomographic findings in 25 patients with destructive lesions of the sternum have been analysed. In 14 cases there was, in addition to bone destruction, extensive or ill-defined soft tissue infiltration. With two exceptions. CT demonstrated the bone changes more clearly than conventional tomography. The value of CT lies in its ability to demonstrate the exact extent of the bone destruction with simultaneous demonstration, or exclusion, of soft tissue infiltration. This is of value when resection or radiotherapy is planned.
