Sixty epileptic patients during remission were examined using clinical and psychological methods. Along with the study of cognitive processes the author examined their attitude to work and the disease, the character of their life stand and the behavioral pattern. The data obtained suggest that the state of simple psychic functions as the prerequisites and conditions underlying complex mental acts does not always reflect the condition of the latter. Comparative analysis of groups of patients identified according to this criterion has shown that the improvement in the state of the mental functions seen in epileptic patients during remission does not necessarily indicate their comprehensive compensation and successful social adaptation. Important prerequisites in the prognosis include the presence of the appropriate attitude to work-related activities, the adequate insight into the disease, an active life stand and the desire to overcome difficulties.
