Measuring the almond nucleus (with the cytoarchitectonic control of its boundaries) on the serial sections of 14 adults of both sexes and different ages (18 cerebral hemispheres), the authors revealed considerable individual spatial differences in its size. In its extremes these differences may be two-fold. As these individual differences in the almond nucleus (AN) were independent of the brain weight of the subjects examined, it is suggested that these differences are determined by the variable functional specificity of the AN in different people.
