Using scanning electron microscopy, the author studied the ependyma and epithelium of the vascular plexuses of the cerebral ventricles in young and old Wistar rats. The old animals presented considerable morphological changes of these structures which were expressed in the polymorphism of the surface of the vascular plexus epithelial cells and the expansion of the contact zones between them. The age-related alterations of the ependyma were characterized by the loss of cilia in some cells and the formation of considerable areas free of cilia on the luminal surface of the ventricle. These alterations may be essential for the age-related disorders of various functions of these structures.
作者利用扫描电子显微镜研究了幼年和老年Wistar大鼠脑室血管丛的室管膜和上皮。老年动物这些结构呈现出相当大的形态变化,表现为血管丛上皮细胞表面的多态性以及它们之间接触区域的扩大。室管膜的年龄相关改变的特征是一些细胞中纤毛的丧失以及脑室腔表面形成相当大的无纤毛区域。这些改变可能对于这些结构各种功能的年龄相关紊乱至关重要。
