Branches of the facial nerve were transected in newborn mice, resulting in paralysis of whisking of the mystacial vibrissae. After maturation, the brains were examined in Nissl preparations for alterations in the barrel field of the primary somatosensory cortex. There were no evident changes as a result of this intervention.
