The effect of prolactin on emotional-painful stress and the hypophyseal-adrenal system in male rats was studied. Prolactin decreased the tension in the hypophyseal-adrenal system, normalized adrenaline and noradrenaline content in the heart and adrenals, and prevented the development of pathological alterations in the myocardium under emotional-painful stress. Therefore, prolactin has a powerful protective property and, like ACTH, is involved in the formation of the adaptive body reactions.
