Supraventricular tachycardia. A probable complication of platinum treatment.

A 51-year-old woman with carcinoma of the ovary developed two episodes of supraventricular tachycardia during two consecutive cycles of combination chemotherapy. Both episodes occurred on day 5 of the 5-day continuous infusion schedule of cis-platinum. Underlying causes known to produce supraventricular tachycardia were ruled out. The possibility of platinum-related cardiac toxicity is discussed.
