The value of blood glucose testing over urine sugar testing is emphasized, and techniques of self-monitoring of blood glucose in children are presented. Test strips and reflectance meters currently on the market are described and evaluated. Useful suggestions are made for introducing blood glucose testing to children, stressing flexibility in the frequency of testing, at least initially, and proper education in the interpretation of testing results.
