Excess amounts of adrenocortical hormones might be clinically observed most notably in the upper part of the face. The diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome depends on a simple laboratory evaluation. Computer scanning may be of considerable value in localising adrenal tumors and differentiating them from bilateral hyperplasia, which has a pituitary origin.
