Seventy patients admitted to hospital before the 14th week of pregnancy with a diagnosis of threatened abortion were studied. A comparison of ultrasonography, clinical assessment, and urinary HCG levels revealed the superiority of ultrasound scanning in predictive accuracy and as an aid to clinical management, particularly after the 9th week of gestation.
