[Recent advances in examination of the fundus (author's transl)].

Morphological examination of the fundus has improved considerably over the past decade. By means of identation biomicroscopy, hitherto inaccessible, extremely-peripheral areas of the fundus can be examined by the slit lamp now; this of importance in the study of intraocular inflammation and the judgement of retinal tears along the ora serrata. Fluorescein angiography has provided important findings recently in cases of disturbed retinal blood circulation, in lesions of Bruch's membrane and of pigment epithelium and in pathological changes of the optic disc. The advances in fundal examination achieved over the past years are based essentially upon indentation biomicroscopy and fluorescein angiography.
