Amoebic liver abscess is a rare complication of pregnancy. Two patients are described, one of whom was diagnosed at laparotomy at 28 weeks gestation, after which the pregnancy progressed normally to term. Diagnostic features and the importance of early treatment with metronidazole and aspiration or laparotomy are discussed.
