A follow-up study was made of 49 patients with dissecting aneurysm of the thoracic aorta diagnosed in the period 1969-1981. Comparison was made of surgery v. antihypertensive drugs for treatment of dissecting aneurysm of the descending thoracic aorta (DeBakey type III). Of 22 non-surgically treated patients with type III dissection, 14 survived for a year or more after the diagnosis, whereas only one of 13 patients survived surgery for any length of time. The prognosis in dissection of DeBakey type III thus seemed to be better with medical than with surgical treatment.
对1969年至1981年期间确诊的49例胸主动脉夹层动脉瘤患者进行了随访研究。对降主动脉夹层动脉瘤（DeBakey III型）采用手术治疗与抗高血压药物治疗进行了比较。在22例接受非手术治疗的III型夹层患者中，14例在诊断后存活了一年或更长时间，而13例接受手术治疗的患者中只有1例存活了任何时长。因此，DeBakey III型夹层的预后似乎药物治疗比手术治疗更好。
