Transrectal ultrasonography.

Transrectal ultrasonography is useful in assessing prostatic size, locally staging patients with prostatic carcinoma, and monitoring tumor response to endocrine therapy. New instrumentation provides the ability to perform needle biopsies under ultrasound guidance and potentially may be useful in the placement of radioactive seeds for treatment of localized malignancies.
