An historical review on biological and medical studies by the piedmontese physicist G. B. Beccaria (XVIII century) is presented. In particular, investigations and experiments concerning the biological effects of natural and artificial electricity, as well as of electrotherapy are discussed. An account on Beccaria's disciples, some of them (Cigna, Gardini, Giulio) were skilful physicians, is also given.
