Clinical significance of an enlarged uterus in patients with postmenopausal bleeding.

Postmenopausal bleeding as it relates to uterine malignancy has received much public and professional attention. Clinical practice suggests that an enlarged uterus encountered during evaluation of postmenopausal bleeding is frequently associated with abnormal endometrial histopathology. One hundred thirty-eight patients with postmenopausal bleeding who underwent a fractional dilatation and curettage were studied retrospectively to evaluate this relationship. In addition to various clinical information obtained, it was determined that postmenopausal bleeding and an enlarged uterus have a statistically significant correlation with advanced endometrial pathology.
