After briefly reviewing the literature on the subject, the Authors describe a case of Lasthénie de Ferjol's syndrome. Its most outstanding feature is at first an unexplicable hypochromic iron-deficiency anaemia, later discovered to be due to repeat, self-induced blood letting on the basis of the patient's altered personality. An account is therefore given of the main events of the disease and the hysterical behaviour, which seems to lead the patient, day after day, to a real organic suicide.
