87 afferent fibres in dorsal roots of lower cervical and upper thoracal segments of the spinal cord and their responses to thermal and mechanical stimulation of skin receptors were studied in adult cats. Higher conduction velocities and larger fibre diameters were found for receptors located more distally in the forepaw skin. The location of the receptive fields of thermosensitive and nonthermosensitive units is different.
