[Relation between histologic-bioptic findings in the synovial membrane and the clinical results of therapy in subsequent chemical synovectomy].

The histological findings in needle biopsy specimens from 35 patients suffering from chronic exudative synovitis of the knee were compared with the clinical data and with the results of chemical synovectomy carried out after the needle biopsy. The investigations suggest that in cases with the pronounced histological changes less improvement can be expected from chemical synovectomy than in cases with slighter histological changes.
