One hundred and forty-nine patients notified in Auckland health district as suffering from hepatitis A or B during the period July 1978-June 1979 were investigated by health inspectors. The results were analysed by age, sex, ethnic group, potential source of infection and immunoglobulin prophylaxis of the contacts, and have increased the understanding of the epidemiology of these types of viral hepatitis in Auckland.
