There are three major types of phagocytic cells: monocytic phagocytes, eosinophils and polymorphonuclear leukocytes. Polys are the major cells of acute inflammation. They are attracted to microbes by chemotactic factors. They kill invading microbes by oxidative and non-oxidative mechanisms.
