Abstract

Functional mesio-occlusion is thought to be uncommon, but, as observed in dental clinics, it may be sometimes mistaken for a true anterior cross-bite, and unfortunately patients are left without any treatment or they are treated improperly. This may result in mandibular dysfunction and unattractive appearance. There are some clinical methods for the diagnosis of functional malocclusion. They include occlusal analysis on an articulator, radiographic cephalometry, temporomandibular joint radiography, mandibular kinesiography, electromyography and so on. In this article, functional mesio-occlusion is illustrated using these scientific methods and based on clinical cases to complete oral rehabilitation.
