Experience with the Choyce anterior chamber implant in the correction of aphakia.

The rationale, indications, contraindications, and technique for the use of the Choyce Mark IX anterior chamber implant are discussed. The results of 130 operations are presented. Excluding eyes with pre-existing pathology, 98.3 per cent achieved 6/12 or better. The Choyce Mark IX anterior chamber implant is relatively easy to insert, provided proper attention is given to surgical technique, it gives good results used secondarily or primarily, can be used in conjunction with a surgeon's routine technique, and has a complication rate at least as low as that of other forms of intraocular implant. It should increasingly find the place it deserves in implant surgery in the United Kingdom, as in the United States of America.
