Five weeks after receiving a kidney donated by his brother, a 33 year old man showed signs of graft rejection concurrent with an Epstein-Barr virus infection. Primary infection with this virus has not been previousy documented in a renal transplant recipient and the possibility of a relationship between the infection and the kidney rejection is discussed.
