Angiotensin is the most potent naturally occurring substance known to produce normal and specific behavior patterns when injected into the brain. These actions of angiotensin on thirst and sodium appetite, when considered with its other actions, show that the hormone is intimately concerned in extracellular fluid volume control. The extent of the participation of angiotensin from various sources in the two behaviors remains uncertain since there are certainly other controls of thirst and sodium appetite that do not depend on angiotensin.
