It has been shown that the process of normalization of the ionic content of kidneys preserved during 6--72 hours with solutions of the "intracellular" type, is most intensive within the first 15 minutes after transplantation. At that time characteristic changes in the content of electrolyte were found in the blood outflowing from the kidney depending on the time of preservation. It enabled the authors to propose a simple and reliable ionometric method for the assessment of the kidney viability.
