Parotid saliva was studied in 119 subjects, some of whom were demonstrated as carrying Candida albicans in the oral cavity. No significant differences were found in the levels of total salivary IgA between the two groups, but specific IgA levels in the saliva differed significantly between the groups with or without the presence of Candida albicans. This confirms the existence of a specific local immunological response in the parotid saliva.
