Transplantation of congenitally opaque corneas.

Nine transparent grafts in fifteen eyes with congenitally opaque corneas with a one- to ten-year follow-up are described. Patients ranged in age at the time of surgery from two to thirty months. Vision in all but two of the eyes with transparent grafts improved. The operative complications included an exaggerated anterior displacement of the lens-iris diaphragm and difficulty obtaining a water-tight wound closure because of the flaccidity of the infant host tissue. The postoperative complications included a peculiar late-developing glaucoma, graft rejection, infection, and early suture loosening.
