[Intramural esophageal abscesses].

Intramural abscesses of the oesophagus resulting from nonpenetrating injuries of it with foreign bodies were observed by the authors in 12 of 377 patients. According to their data, 11 patients with small intramural abscesses showed good recovery after conservative treatment. One patient with an abscess occupying great part of the thoracic portion of the oesophagus was subjected to its resection with esophagoplasty which is considered to be the operation of choice in such situations.
